Why Compete?

Competition reinforces learning in sessions?

All the activities in our sessions link back to the game of tennis in some way however without competition how does your child understand this. Without competition understanding can be fragmented and teaching points only understood in isolation.

Competitions brings everything into perspective. To win a point you have to serve, hit a forehand, maybe a backhand or even a volley. It is tough to replicate this within the confines of a lesson.

Breakout into competition and see you or your child performance soar.

Can competition improve your confidence?

Absolutely! Competition gives everybody the feeling of independence as you are in control. This is the beauty of tennis, it’s an individual sport. Individual sports instil higher levels of self-reliance, discipline and passion in students.

Nadal once said “I either win or lose but either way I learn” and this encapsulates the benefits of competition. Tennis is a game of problems and problem solving and this process creates an avalanche of self confidence over time.

Is competition fun?

It certainly is but it is important to frame competition in a way that manages expectation. While winning is part of it there are other factors to consider including improvement, working on goals and making new friends. After all, there is nothing more fun than feeling like you are getting better.

Competition builds character and produces a spirit of excellence. It pushes that continual striving to truly do our best, and as that happens, it teaches us what it's like to win, and lose. Competition also exposes you to lots of new people and often you find in tennis you make friends for life through tennis, not only does this help with motivation but also it’s the shared experience of playing together that builds trust and loyalty.

Does competition build resilience?

Ever wondered why professional athletes are so mentally strong? Competition promotes mental resilience which is a skill that you can keep forever, knowing you can keep going no matter what is happening. Students who are mentally tough possess the ability to disregard negative outcomes or adversity; they have the ability to control their emotions and silence the voice inside their head that says something is impossible.
